Private lesson on SEO (Search Engine Optimization)

Yesterday at the end of my trendsetters class, one of my classmates wanted some advice about SEO (search engine optimization). A few of us stayed behind after to listen to my instructor’s advice on it. I stayed behind to listen as well because any information I can get my hands on I feel will be useful to me in the long run. Nowadays, many businesses want their websites to have SEO and be on top of Google’s PageRank. The number one advice my instructor gave us was to make sure your content is “good, well written and relevant” to the topic of your website. He was saying Google pays more attention to the content now rather than just the keywords. This is because others have taken advantage and rather than having good content just repeating a certain word several times. This will actually drop your ranking in Google. Also he mentioned that site’s that link to your content can add to your page ranking. Although having reciprocal linking (linking your site to another and having them link back to you) does not  work and may make your ranking drop as well.

I thought it was interesting the analogy he gave when a question was asked on charging a client who wants their site to be search engine optimized. His exact words were that when negotiating a client on the price of SEO, ask this “How much are you willing to pay to have your site viewed by thousands of people worldwide?”
